SF player here and I personally know and LIKE almost every single player and coach for Timp, the ones I dont like are the ones i haven't met! I know that Timp dominated the first half and that SF didnt show for the beginning, I know there were some dropped passes on the crease, some pipers, some lucky saves and some lucky shots for BOTH teams! It came down to SF wanting it and playing their best O and one point in lacrosse shows what a good game it was! Props to Timp for giving us a great game, and you guys all know i love ya!

  • Dartman1

Nobody get lucky and wins a state championship. Obviously Spanish was the better team that day. Sounds like they played great D if they only gave up 7 goals. Congrats to Spanish Fork!

    • Downsouth

Yeah but with a 9 to 1 penalty ratio what could timp do? and it was not because spanish fork was playing clean or because timpanogos was playing dirty. when the refs are being knit picky about calls with one team and actually letting the other team play it becomes extremely difficult for the team being penalized to play their best game, the game they know how to play, for fear of having every little thing they do hurt their team. look at the number of penalties in the first quarter for both teams and look at the score of the first quarter, then contrast that same thing to the rest of the game (especially the second half). I mean congrats to Spanish for playing a heck of a game, but I believe the entire state knows who is really the better team. if timp was given another chance to play spanish with fair refs, i believe the outcome of that game would be completely different.

      • #1laxmom

Are you saying Timp got beat by the refs? If you are then shame on you. Timp played better the first half and Spanish played better the second and at the end when it counted. You can't blame the refs for the Timp goalie not having his mouth guard in and getting a technical, can you? I think the refs did an "OK" job. I think they made some crappy calls against Timp and I think they made some crappy calls against Spanish. They also had some no calls against BOTH teams. You say the entire state knows who is really the better team? I think they are both awesome teams—last year Spanish won in the regular season and Timp won in State and this year it was reversed. I think either team could win against each other and give us another good game. Stop blaming the refs for an excellent game from both teams. (What was the penalty ratio for the first half?)

        • ddd

9 to 1 is a bit ridiculous. If you look at the highlight video on this site, it shows at least 3 illegal cross-checks coming from Spanish with no penalties at all.

          • Dlax

            Wrong

      • D2 people annoying

Everyone can keep coming up with the excuses they want but doesnt change that outcome. If Timpanogos was as good as team as you guys think then they would have adjusted to the adversity thrown to them but these " unfair refs". And to all ou SF fans stop thinking your team is so high and mighty because they won a state championship. The game could have gone either way. SF got a beat down earlier in the season against Timp

        • #1laxmom

I do agree the game could have gone either way–just like last year when Timp won. The SF Team/fans don't think they are high and mighty. But SF has a right to be proud of winning the state championship and Timp had the right to be proud to win it last year. If you read what I wrote you would have realized that Timp won last year and SF beat them last year earlier in the season and this year it was reversed. I do believe you (D2 people annoying) are annoying because you are probably from D1 and only think they matter. What difference does it make? I think it is great that lacrosse is growing in Utah and don't really care whether a team is from D1 or D2—a State Championship in either division is a great accomplishment. And what excuses are we coming up with and what outcome are we trying to change?

  • TrueLax29

I wanna say congratulations to both Brighton and Spanish Fork. Both teams brought the intensity when needed. As we all know post season play is way more intense and important than the regular season. Congrats and you better start preparing for next season the targets just got bigger.

  • Dartman1

Hey congratulations to Timp for a heck of a game on Tuesday night. The game was sloppy in the first half, but Timp got it together in the second half and really out played Davis in every way. From what I saw Timpanogas is a great team and should be the state champs again. Congrats-to the Timberwolves!

    • RivLaxer

Your celebration was little early don't ya think. Spanish takes the title.

      • wolf

SPANISH FORK IS NOT BETTER THEN TIMP

        • RivLaxer

Well the state title says something different wolf. unless you think we should change it to a BCS-like system where we vote who is the best team instead of letting the teams prove it on the field?

        • Laxmomma

Spanish Fork brought their awesome defense, mixed it with a great offense and had the intensity to win it all!! When all the dust settles, they are the best team!! AND they have the trophy to prove it!! Any questions?

          • ddd

Just one. How much did you pay the refs?

  • D2 is a joke

i really dont get why all of you are going so worked up over DIVISION 2!! Most D1 jv teams could run over these stellar defenses of d2. nobody cares!

    • TrueLax29

Apparently people do care. No one seems to be talking about the D1 teams, or at least not as much as the top teams in D2. Lets be honest; many of these teams that now make up D1 used to be D2 before the current growth in popularity. That trend is gonna continue. THe comment about D1 jv teams running over top D2 teams is a stretch. I know of one D2 jv team that is massacring all of its D1 competition. Matter of fact that same team could probably run over the mid to low tier D1 teams. The competition level is changing and growing. Before too long, no one will be safe in assuming they are at the top.

      • Purelax

Amen Truelax29…..he must drink the same Kool-aid as WHAT ?/. Probably plays JV for Brighton or Alta….

        • Trout

What team do you know of that is ripping up it's D1 comp in Jv true lax. Just curious

    • Dlax

Ha! I know Spanish fork went out and spanked a bunch of d1 teams in the beginning of the season and could do it again

  • BedfordFalls

The game of the DII tournament was Spanish vs. Lehi. Two stellar defenses playing physical, aggressive ball. Two goalies on top of their games making sick saves. One bounce or save either way and it could have been Lehi winning instead of Spanish, but Spanish deserved it too. Can't wait to see Timp offense against SF defense. I think Timp will take it, but it has the makings of a good game.

Someone remind me why Timp didn't go DI after winning DII last year? I thought that was required…Timp would be a good, but not top caliber DI team.

    • http://www.utahlacrossenews.com TimHaslam

      Definitely not required

    • ddd

The game of the tournament was definitely Davis vs Timp. Spanish vs Lehi was almost painful to watch. Really poor ball control by both teams during the first half. Spanish is going to get destroyed by a very good timp team.

      • Ben Zuckerman

Yeah it was not a very clean game to say the least, with the way things played out it looks like Timpanogos should handle them pretty easily.

      • Laxmomma

Spanish Fork's JV attack beat Lehi. With one starter out with a torn ACL, one starter gone for the game, and other Varsity attack sideline due to various ingame injuries, SF's JV stepped up and the defense held on to take SF to another state championship game. Not bad for a 3rd year team!!

      • RivLaxer

Well ddd, you can eat your words. Spanish Fork took the title. Looks like Davis was not as good as they thought they were the WHOLE season.

And the south takes the title again. Say what north teams??? Where is the trash-talk now.

        • hey rivlaxer

Timp dominated the whole first half. The second half they just played to lose which screwed them. Timp is a much better team. And Rivlaxer i assume your from Riverton. And i am pretty sure Davis beat you guys down at best of the west. So where is your trash-talk now?

          • RivLaxer

Yes I'm from riverton, but I don't play there. Obviously you are a Davis fan. You lost in the semis by…what was it…11 points? ouch. You can say Timp was the better team, but SF went home with the title, so it seems your opinion is invalid.

          • warrior

ir timp is a better team…how come they didnt win? sf showed up as the better team, we wanted it more.

        • ddd

First, I was wrong. I'll be the first to admit it. I think that the Timp vs Spanish game was called a bit of bias (9 penalties to 1 is a joke), but the score can't be changed. Timp got screwed and Spanish took advantage of it.
Second, What the hell makes you think I'm from Davis? My kid lost in the first round xD

  • RivLaxer

    RE: Confused

I think 'What the" has a point. The northern teams for DI and DII got slaughtered in the playoffs, and yet they have some of the highest scorers in the state. Why is this? Because they play crap teams and run up the score. putting 23 points up on murray is not impressive, just classless.

Davis was supposedly this offensive juggernaut and they looked like a JV team against a timp defense that has absolutely no slide. All they had to do was drive and dish and it would have been close. simple offense was out of their grasp.

I'm glad the top scorers in the state feel slighted. It's about being the best team, not the best player that ultimately gets the votes. I'll pick a game changing midfielder with no goals over a cocky ball hog that is the top scorer in the state.

    • Hmm?

hey what was the score going into the fourth quarter of timp and davis. 8-5. davis D just fell apart in the fourth. i dont know how you can say they looked like a JV team

    • Downsouth

no slide by the Timp d? you obviously haven't watched them then.

  • Confused

All you top ten players in stats should be pissed off if you didnt get selected for ALL STATE….why bother keeping stats if they're not going be the basis for selecting the top players in the state. Shame it boils down to a popularity contest for the teams and what coaches like each other or don't. What a screwed up system….Almost as bad as the BCS!

    • What The?!

The reason it's NOT all about stats is because teams like Brighton, Alta, and Juan Diego have 3-5 offensive players that SHARE the ball and because of that, they essentially KILL each other's stats. Teams like Bountiful and Weber and American Fork are ONE MAN SHOWS….so one guy gets these HUGE stats, not to mention those teams up North are FILLED with D2 games and can really fill up the stat sheet. Probably more than 1/2 the starters on those teams wouldn't even make Brighton's varsity squad.
The BEST players get the awards based on COACHES votes. Coaches see who the best players are based on the teams they play and watch.
If they rewarded JUST stats, how come those kids aren't getting the scholarship offers???!! BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT THE BEST PLAYERS. Simple.

      • Confused

So let me get this straight so you have to play for Bright, Alta and Juan Diego to get recognized as an ALL STATE player and all others should bow to their existence. Those teams do in fact have some good ball handlers and there are some teams that have just a couple of studs that work good together make their teams competive and should be recoginized,
Your right, Its not all about the stat's but that's something tangible and has to be the starting point to make the selection otherwise its the North vs South……..East vs West. Stats should only be counted for in conference games. There are a couple of the DI top scorers that beat up on some poor teams (DII) with out rageous goals and assists and skewed thier stats.
I agree there are some one man show's out there and you can see that in their stats, as they are extremely lopsided with goals and assists, and should probably be discounted, but there are others that are discounted because of who they play for or dont.
But thanks for trying to enlighten us….I know what goes on behind closed doors.

        • What The?!

Yep! YOU GOT IT! If you don't play for Brighton, Alta, Judge, or JD in D1, or Spanish, Lehi, or Timp in D2 you are screwed! SO sorry,
          Sincerly,
          "Conspiracy behind closed doors"

    • Ty Williams

It's about being the best team? Being voted an all state player should have NOTHING to do with what team you are on. It should be about raw talent. There are some guys I know for a fact are much more of a game changer then most the guys on those awfully voted lists. One specifically who put up 10 points in a playoff game against, guess who, the first team all state goalie. Go ask him who I'm talking about I guarantee he would say that player got stiffed. I am not saying the stats should be number one determining factor. But the voting system is a popularity contest. And many players SHOULD feel ripped off.

  • REPEAT

Timpanogos ran over Davis tonight. 15-6. see spanish in the finals again. REPEAT?

  • ddd

good luck to all semi-finalist teams tomorrow :)

  • Slasher

Prediction: Winner of Timp vs Davis will win the DII state championship. Have not seen Davis play all year…but would like to see them win it all. This game actually is the state championship.

    • nofasofa

I think davis will Lose. We (East ) played them on the 14th and they are a really cocky team. It will be a disadvantage when they go against a team as good as Timp thinking they are invincible.

      • ESA

no they probably figured they could beat a really crappy team like East which they did. you guys are horrible!

  • dpope

Mine was toast from the first round …

  • Cram

We all know that Davis is going to win it. Hands down.

    • Dartman1

They can beat Timp, but it's going to have to be there best effort of the year. Hands down? I don't think so.

    • Natty

      wait a minute, didn't timp wreck 15-6?

    • warrior

      and didnt sf wreck timp?

      • Audie

I wouldn't call 1 point wrecking ya dip. Good job though.

      • ???

Are you joking me? you just said Spanish fork wrecked timp? No spanish fork got lucky. timp just didn't have a good second half

        • warriors

are you joking me??? Spanish fork deserved it.

        • Laxmomma

Spanish Fork's defense shut Timp down!! Give credit where it is earned.

          • Downsouth

yeah with a 9 to 1 penalty ratio when the number of penalties should have easily been more even… i wouldn't necessarily call that deserving, sorry.

    • laxboy

RELAX yo! It's just a game, Timp won last year over Spanish, Spanish wons this year over Timp. The games were remarkably simliar and how it started and how it ended so just realize SF got their chance with a trophy, no big deal. Bring it to win it next year and enjoy the best sport in the world!

  • Ben Zuckerman

    How's everybody's brackets looking?

  • who cares about D2

d2 should get their own comment page because they are cluttering up everything that matters….. division 1. the top division 2 teams would get smacked by most of the descent d1 teams, timpanogas goes to D1 they will get crushed. Being the champion of D2 is like being the worlds tallest midget. bountiful was not a good team so you can’t count davis winning over them as an upset. davis got handled by weber, and anytime weber played a good team they got recked. its good that the sport is getting more popular around more schools but the difference between D1 and D2 lacrosse is utah is like comparing junior jazz and the nba,

  • scooter

Here are the predictions for the 2nd round. Davis, Timp, Lehi, and Spanish.

  • boxelderbee2

Nobody gives us a chance tomorrow against the mighty timpanogas. We are going to get them and revenge on davis in the next round. Look out for the mormon gynecologist–Box Elder!

    • scooter

      boxelderbee2–uh not!! Nice try though!!!!

  • RivLaxer

I love seeing almost every playoff game being played in high school stadiums. The sport has come a long way since I played. The teams that i pay closer attention to have had high school administrations that have done everything in their power to have them at the high school. hopefully that attitude will spread.

  • What The?!

So, it's pretty easy to see it's gonna be Brighton v Alta on the left side. It would be close to a miracle if Bingham beat JD, and Judge v CH will be a battle. First round games were much more exciting than these 2nd round matchups. Only good game comes Sat night out on CH field. I am going with Judge though.
The Alta v Brighton game is going to be FUN! JD v Judge would be great too! Really looking forward to Wed night at Juan Diego stadium!

    • Dan

Should be a battle royal at Copper Hills. The first game earlier this year was outstanding, and Judge squeaked out a win, but I think Copper Hills gets them this time, at home and with better weather!! I personally don't see JD beating Copper Hills either, but I am biased. It's sure going to be a lot of fun.
But, you are right the Alta vs Brighton game will be a good one too.

    • Mason

Bingham beat JD in the regular season. Pretty even game. I dont think miracle is the right word.

  • Imreadytoknow

Who won between Lehi and Northridge?? That game has been over for 2hrs.

  • Wilk

As we all know Timp can show up for any game. Not just offensivly but putting up a stonge front on d as well. Their only two loses were against two division one teams who both earned a one seed in their bracket. Timp has, as of right now has the mind set and determinarion to roll through the rds. Timp is ready for d1. It will be a fight through box elder, davis, and Spanish though. I'm predicting a repeat of last year.

    • Jim

this coming from what appears to be the Timp goalie.. i would say your a little biased. :) however Timp is a great team and if they go d1 I wish you guys the best of luck

    • What The?!

Timp WILL win the D2 championship, but ready for D1?! They would get ROLLED in D1. I DO agree they could battle to make the playoffs in D1, but ready for D1 is a bold statement. Timp should switch places with Orem in the South D1 division if they do make the jump.

      • RivLaxer

        To: What the?!

Considering that Lehi, Timpanogas, Spanish Fork, and Davis all played division I teams throughout the whole season I have no idea why you think Timp would get rolled in DI. I don't think they would be state champs, but getting rolled is what happened to a lot of DI teams that played the above said teams in the regulars season this year.

        • What The?!

          Hey Riv Lax:
What I am referring to is Timp, Sp Fk, Davis, Lehi would get ROLLED by 6+ goals by the top 8-10 D1 teams. I know those lower tier D1 teams the D2 teams play (or any team in the North D1 division for that matter) can be beat by your D2 squads, but when any of the D2 teams hang with a top tier D1 team, you can talk about making an impact at the next level.
No disrespect at all, each D2 team has a couple players and have some good coaching, but its a different game at D1

          • dartman1

WoW! They would probably get beat by 5-6 goals by the top 4-5 d1 teams, but not the top 8-10 teams in d1. All four of the teams above could play d1. They won't get better until they do make the jump. Take Davis-beat 5 out of 6 d1 teams this year. Lost to Weber at Weber 12-8. I think that was the same score Weber beat Jordan in the 1st round. Weber and Bonneville both did pretty good in the 1st round of the playoffs. There not elite d1 but they beat Waterford and Jordan. Davis beat a up and down Bountiful team this year. Bountiful is rebuilding, but beat Weber and Bonneville in the reg. season. They should have Davis take WX spot in the north division for d1. Wx definitely doesn't belong in d1. Sky View and Logan should move down to d2 as well.

          • What The?!

Dartman, you hit the head of the nail…..they need to do some re-alignments. Orem and maybe AF should go D2, Timp, SF to D1. Northern- I agree with the WX for Davis swap as well.
I am not out to disrespect anyone and your points of comparing scores are well taken, but I would say that the TOP D2 teams would get worked by at least the top 6 D1 teams. (ie- final 4 + CH & Bingham) I am just talking RIGHT NOW. But that being said, the best D2 teams DO need to move up. and the BOTTOM D1 teams need to move down.

          • laxer

What about when Davis lost to Park City 5-3 in Best of the West? That seems pretty close to me

          • What The?!

Davis LOST to a team that got THROTTLED in the 1st round of D1 playoffs…..I don't think that is something to be proud of?!

          • Dartman1

I think we are talking the same language here. I agree with what you are saying. I think that the final 4-d2 teams are all pretty good. Whether they can beat the top 8-10 or 5-6 d1 teams? Anyone can beat anyone on a given day if they are pretty even. Bingham didn't blow bountful out. 14-12 final. I agree with your alignments though. Definitely need to be changed this year. Skyview had one nice run a couple of years ago and many of the parents on that team think they should be d2 not d1. It's no fun to beat everyone in your conference by 13 or more goals like Davis did this year. And trust me Davis has all the respect in the world for Timp. They are going to have to play there best game all year to have a chance to win for sure!!

  • Hi-ChewLAX

Well there you have it. Just as I called it. Now lets go ahead and make the predictions for the second round. Timpanogos over Box Elder, Davis over East, Mtn Crest over Spanish Fork (this is my upset), and it looks like the other two game still haven't reported.

  • dpope

ya mad props the boneville and weber last night very awesome today games should be pretty awesome with a few upsets not entirely sure where but if its anything like last years playoffs they could be huge

  • What The?!

I have to say I am very surprised and want to congratulate Bonneville and Weber……..thought that North conference was pretty weak, but they came away with 2 wins today against Sandy Conference teams. WOW. Wed should be VERY fun to see who comes out of the 1st rd.

  • mattdanowski

    RivLaxer,

You sound like you really have the inside track on Timp. MAybe I should have my dad all give them scholarships to Duke! Sincerely, Matt Danowski

    • RivLaxer

Can't! I already gave them scholarships to Johns Hopkins. Nice try though

      • ddd

you wouldn't know sarcasm if it bit you in the butt
lets all just get along, ok?

        • mattdanowski

Oh we are just having a little bit of fun here! It's all good ddd and Riv Laxer. How about Bountiful going down to Bingham? Didn't think the braves would go far, but thought they would get that game at least. Weber and Bonneville looking strong!

  • RivLaxer

Davis is going to light up MTN view, we all know that. What the south supporters are saying is there is no northern offense that will put up with southern defenses. Timp plays possesion offense and quick defense. And SF has always held teams below their avg. goals per game percentage.

When timp plays davis they will have the ball the whole time.

    • boxelderbee2

They are going to have to get by the Bees first. Bees not happy and feeling overlooked!

      • ddd

you guys played great… timp just outlasted you :(

        • scooter

cmon you are being kind. the final was 17-6. Didn't see the game, but maybe timp scored 7 in the final quarter or something?

  • Laxvet

So are people really already making excuses for a Timp lose. Welcome to the playoffs, if you lose it's because a better team beat you. Box Elder a north team that is good, Mtn Crest a north team that's coming on strong late in the season. And Davis who was ranked number one overall every time by the coaches are all strong north teams. Lehi barely beats Northridge, who then gets destroyed by Davis, shows that the south isn't that strong. Davis does play a lot of man down due to the aggressive style of play. But there Man down defense is just as good as any other teams 6 man. All these people saying the teams down south are the best have yet to see Davis play. What were the scores when Timp, Spanish Fork and Lehi played Mtn View? We shall see just how strong the south is as Davis takes Mtn View on tomorrow.

    • http://twitter.com/dnorthut @dnorthut

Sure the regular season Lehi v Northridge game was close. No excuses. Lehi beat Northridge yesterday 12-4. The score was 7-0 before Northridge even got a shot off on goal.

    • Downsouth

Well what was the score of the davis vs box elder game? Then what was the score of the timpanogos vs box elder game? Welcome to the playoffs!

      • CopLax

Comparing scores means nothing. What about Davis putting 20 on mountain view and timp only putting 14. So comparing scores means absolutely nothing. Tomorrow will tell it all

  • Stangslax

Timpanogos is the best team in the tourney for sure. But The best team dosen't always win. I think if Timpanogos doesn't win this year, it will be because they lose to Box Elder. Box Elder is a good team, and it could be easy for Timp to over look them, with Davis matchup looming in the next round. If Timp beats BE like they should, they win the whole thing.

Mountain Crest is the dark horse on the other side. A second round game vs. Spanish Fork would be a pretty even battle. Win that, and I think they could upset Lehi to get to the title game.

    • scooter

Man Mountain Crest in the title game seems like a stretch. If they beat Spanish fork and Lehi then they definitely deserve to be there. How would that be Box Elder vs. Mountain Crest in the final. Pretty good rematch for sure. But I could see Box Elder in the final before Moutain Crest. Good luck Mustangs!!

    • http://twitter.com/dnorthut @dnorthut

I agree Mountain Crest is a dark horse this year. I'm looking forward to see how they play Spanish Fork tomorrow.

  • Hi-ChewLAX

You definitely cannot count out anyone. The playoffs are entirely different from the regular season. I do believe that the top teams will make it to the Semifinals. In saying that there are two things that each team has a strength and a weakness at; and they are one in the same, possession time, and defense. Box Elder, Timpanogos, Lehi, Spanish Fork, and Davis all possess the ball well and when they don't then the defense plays solid. The team that lunges, or bites on a re-dodge will be the ones walking in those games. It is then left up to the goalies. What a good cast of goalies this year, Baskin from Davis, Wilkey from Timp, McGregor from Lehi, Rowley from SF, and Richards from Box. It is gonna be a battle.

I agree it's going to be a battle. It's going to come down to defense and golies for sure. Davis D-poles are going to have to stay out of the penalty box. They got some agressive d-poles that think the game is played like football. It hurts them a lot for sure. You give Timp very many man down opportunities and they will make you pay.

  • RivLaxer

That's why I love the playoffs. Teams that were terrible at the start of the season can come out of nowhere and take the cake. Mtn crest has shown that improvement is possible. Spanish Fork is as good as Timp if they show up. Problem is their offense was a no-show the first time against timp.

The games they've shown up they are dangerous. Timpanogas is the most solid team in DII. Lehi is good. The only way that there is a northern team in the ship is if Timp forgets how to play lax in the next 2 weeks. Timp will play in the ship against the winner of Lehi/Spanish.

  • Laxvet

If I recall, last year Davis beat the crap out of Lehi. And Lehi isn't half as good as they were last year. Spanish Fork is Good, but Timpanogas has already beat them. The game of the year will be when Davis meets Timp in the semi final.

    • Rocky

Hey you can smack the darts all you want, but the team can ball! They aren't going to beat the best d1 teams, but they got a bitter taste in there mouth from losing to timp last year in the quarters. Whoever wins that game should take the trophy!

      • http://twitter.com/dnorthut @dnorthut

I'm not sure that a score of 11-7 (I think it was actually 11-8) Davis over Lehi shows Davis 'beat the crap' out of Lehi. Regardless of whether Davis stays D2 or moves up to D1, Lehi looks forward to a future chance to play them again.

  • Laxfan

    Scooter,

So you believe that when Lehi runs iso all the time that is team play?

    • http://twitter.com/dnorthut @dnorthut

Hm. Lehi puts 162 in the net against around 80 assists? 8 players scoring 10 or more goals? All of them also dishing out assists?

  • topchedda

Have any of you seen Davis actually play?

    • bigkahuna

Oh they can-play! They got a couple of attacks in yocum and gee that really play well together. Physical style lax is there game. Smash mouth style!!!! They came back from 6 down at half on bountiful to win. Timp better be ready.

    • Mobettachedda!

Davis got lucky against Bountiful. Bountiful got lazy in the second half and Davis rallied back. Davis couldn't hang with Bountiful now in a meaningful playoff style game. Stay in the comfortable D2 Darts and enjoy your meaningless 12-1 seasons.

      • Mattdanowski

Bountiful got beat by a 4-seed mobettachedda!! Beat by the Viewmont in the final game of the season. They aren't that good.

  • Scooter

Davis is a good team up north, but I don't think they are ready for the type of team that will come out of the south. Timpanogas, Spanish, and Lehi would all beat them. Sorry Darts you got talent, but the other 3-play as a team.

    • RivLaxer

Glad Scooter has the idea. I've been preaching it all season. Timpanogas is really good. And I mean really good. Davis will get their championship, but it won't be this year.

      • Dantheman

Timp is good for sure, but I wanted to weigh in. I love all the passionate banter about lax. Great time of year. Now if we can just get the weather to cooperate. I watched the Darts give Park City all they could handle down at the best of the west tournament in Vegas. PArk City got out with a 5-3 win. I know it was the beginning of the year and all, but Davis can play. As a parent with a player at a Div 1 school I have to give props to the Davis program. This is there 3rd year of lax. They lost by 2 to the eventual champ Timpanogas last yeaar. There are a lot of d2 programs that can look at what Davis has done and try and copy it. There youth programs are really good as well and that is the story of there success. How many programs should be d1 after just 3-years? They are definitely one that should be considered for the next level in my opinion.

        • fpdavis3

Spanish Fork is only in its 3rd year the same as Davis and Spanish Fork made it to the Championship last year and was leading most of that game and lost in the last 11 seconds. They are in the finals again this year. The teams up North are good but the teams from from Utah county are better. When you look at the final four for the last two years it was 3 South teams and 1 North team. We will have to see what happens next year, but for this year and last South has dominated.

    • ddd

have you actually seen Davis play?

    • dragon14

Yes davis is a good team and has talent. But you are correct they probably aren't ready for the south unless they start playing like a team, and I don't think the darts can handle lehi's face off guy he is quick. Once the darts play as a team they will dominate later on.

      • Jessica Steele

What makes you think that Davis doesn't play as a team…you obviously haven't seen them play! And further more, I am tired of people bashing them, when this is only their third year playing! There must be some jealousy issues. They have come so far in three years and they are an incredible team with amazing coaches and great young men! Yocum was coach of the year for 2010! The Darts will give it their all tomorrow night! GO DARTS!

        • scooter

Jessica, you are obviously a mother of a kid on the davis team. I love your passion though!! But Timp is going to roll over the darts!! Davis squeaked by Box Elder and Timp beat them 17-6. Call me out if I'm wrong—With love, scooter!

  • maxinandlaxin

Ya that sounds about right on the Div. 2 final. Davis hasn't played anyone good in D2 except Box Elder. Lots of people up north say they are overated. Team Chemistry issues!!

    • laxcrazy

Well honestly who is good that's in Div. 2 for them to play? Most there games are Div.1 teams like Bountiful who is #1 seed in there region and they beat them. I don't know how you can say they are overated. And have you even seen them play?

    • .-.. .- -..-

      have you seen them play?

  • RivLaxer

Right side of the bracket is super easy compared to the left side. Final four: Lehi v. Spanish Fork, and Timpanogas v. Davis. Championship game: SF v. Timpanogas.

    • laxcrazy

How did Mountain Crest get the 1 seed up north over Box Elder? They must have played great at the end of the season.

      • http://www.utahlacrossenews.com TimHaslam

Mountain Crest went 3-0 in conference play, beating Box Elder 10-8 during the season.

        • laxcrazy

Mountain Crest must have had some injuries early on. Because they looked bad at the beginining of the season. Got pounded! when you look at some of the scores of there early games. Box Elder should give Timp a really good game in the quarter finals. Box Elder is a scary 2 seed!!

          • Stangslax

Mountain Crest hasn't had any significant injuries all season. They lost to Davis in the season opener beasue MC's top scorer was shut out, and Pepper owned the face offs. Northridge was an OT loss, and again the same kid was shut out. Their turnaround came vs. Box Elder. They were down 3 goals with 5 mins left. Scored 5 unanswered to win (4 coming from their top scorer).

Their other bad losses came to Lehi and Timpanogos. However both the Davis game and Timpanogos game, Mountain Crest pulled its starters the fourth quarter and the other teams did not, and the game got even more lopsided than they actually were. What was a 6 goal lead, turned into a double digit loss because both teams poured in goals against the reserves. To coach Freeman's credit, Lehi pulled its starters in the 4th just as did Mountain Crest, and the final score is more representitive of the game, 14-6

Box Elder is a scary 2nd game for Timpanogos. They had better not over look them, because if the BE goalie gets hot, and BE's offense doesn't what its done all season (score lots of goals) the game will go BE's way.

          • scooter

Interesting insight. That Timp vs Box Elder game is going to be a good one. Box Elder has a lot of motivation in this one. Everyone wants to hand Timp the trophy!

          • laxeweye

Unfortunately for BE, the game didn't go their way. BE was up 4-1 in the first quarter, looking linke Timp might have overlooked them, but Timp woke up in the second quarter, and rolled away with the game, ending 17-6, with Wilkey making an assist from the crease to Farley with less than a minute to go.

  • What the?!

Alta, Brighton, Judge, Juan Diego in the final 4.
Alta v Juan Diego championship game.

    • Dan

My final 4. Alta v Brighton JD vs Copper Hills. Judge barely got by the Grizzlies the last time on their home field in a torrential rain/snow blizzard. Copper Hills was playing back to back, with a third divisional game the next night too. I think Copper Hills wins the rematch at home.

      • EscribiendoMiFuturo

Don't get me wrong Judge is a good team with loads of talent, but I think the game will have a different result in decent weather and at home for Copper Hills. Thought it will be close, I see Copper Hills coming out on top and surprising the big 4.

  • Hi-ChewLAX

I am making my first round predictions: Timpanogos, Box Elder, East, Davis, Herriman, Lehi, Spanish Fork, Mountain Crest

    • http://www.utahlacrossenews.com TimHaslam

I like it. Seems about right.

    • Stangslax

What is the most likely upset in the first round? (and Lehi over Northridge is not an upset)

      • http://www.utahlacrossenews.com TimHaslam

If Lehi over Northridge doesn't count then I'd say West over Spanish Fork if we have to choose a game. I just don't see that happening though. The top teams are very good and the bottom teams are very weak.
