Bracketology – Boys D-I: April 23, 2012
04.23.2012 - By Tim Haslam

Last week was another great week in the state for lacrosse. Bountiful beat Davis in a crucial North Conference match-up that sets up a great path for the Braves. Alta narrowly beat Bingham to retain the top spot in the Sandy Conference. Check out the bracket below and comment on who you think will win each conference. The North Conference No. 2 seed is up for grabs still with Davis, Viewmont and Weber making a case.

This year in the rotation will feature the Sandy Conference playing the Salt Lake Conference with the North matching up with the South Conference.

Here are the tiebreakers:

1. Conference Standings
2. Head-to-Head
3. Fewer Goals Allowed for All Conference Games (max. 8 point diff. per game)
4. Coin Toss by the Council Executive Committee

And the bracket (Projected Final Standings):
2012 Boys D-I Lacrosse Bracketology - 04.16.12

Conference Breakdowns (Projected Final Standings)

Sandy
No. 1 Alta
No. 2 Juan Diego
No. 3 Bingham
No. 4 Jordan
No. 5 Copper Hills
The Bingham v. Juan Diego game on Tuesday will determine the No. 2 seed. It is a must win game for both squads. Jordan controls their own destiny on Tuesday when they host Copper Hills in a game that will sort out the No. 4 seed.

Salt Lake
No. 1 Brighton
No. 2 Judge
No. 3 Park City
No. 4 Olympus
No. 5 Skyline
Perhaps one of the best games of the week, Brighton will take on Judge on Wednesday for the No. 1 seed. Olympus and Skyline play on Friday. The Titans must win to stay in the playoff hunt.

North
No. 1 Bountiful
No. 2 Viewmont
No. 3 Davis
No. 4 Weber
No. 5 Bonneville
Viewmont and Davis face-off on Tuesday. Davis has only played three roads games, losing all three, but for the most part, they were close games. This game could really go anyway. The Vikings and Darts have three common opponents: Bingham – Davis won, Viewmont Lost, Jordan – Davis lost, Viewmont won, Weber – Davis won, Viewmont lost.

South
No. 1 Pleasant Grove
No. 2 Timpanogos
No. 3 Lone Peak
No. 4 Riverton
No. 5 American Fork
Pleasant Grove will take to the road on Friday to face Timpanogos in a key game that will likely settle the No. 1 seed in the South. Lone Peak has played all their conference games going 2-2. They lost to Pleasant Grove and Timpanogos and beat Lone Peak and American Fork. The winner of the Riverton/American Fork game on Friday will grab the last playoff spot in the South.

Well, your prediction came true – Timp takes PG to capture the #1 seed for the south conference, having beat all 4 teams in the south conference.  Unsure of the final score, but somewhere in the 15-10 range.  Timp showed up with a vengeance, but PG also didn’t look like they were on their game.

  • perrypoint

Ah, but you forget that PG beat Park City 14-8 and Timp *lost* to Park City 6-14. The margin against Park City is bigger than the Bountiful games.  Timp has the home field advantage, but it will come down to which team shows up to play on Friday.

I can’t wait to see the game tonight out at Brighton with Brighton vs Judge. I will definately be in attendance at that game tonight! I think this will be a good game that could go either way. It looked it was a great game last night with Bingham and Juan Diego. From what I had seen previous to that game i knew that Bingham’s Defense wouldn’t be able to hang with Juan diego’s potent offense.
I will definately be going to the PG vs Timp game on the 27th. This going to be a great game showing off some off some great players. I don’t think Timpanogos’ d can hang with PG’s athletic attackmen.

Alta v Timpanogos would be a LOT tougher game than Brighton v Lone Peak!
I think the best seed in the tourney would be the Sandy 2 seed.

Not so fast. Sandy 2 at this point plays Park City. If the good Park City comes to play, they can hang easily with Juan Diego. The good PC took Bingham and Brighton to overtime. Then the winner of JD/PC has to Pleasant Grove who is very good if they’re on their game. Really it comes down to who is peaking when the playoffs start.

Actually in your analysis of the North comparing Davis and Viewmont.  Davis actually lost to Bingham 9-6.  It definitely could go either way though.   But my bet is Davis gets this game.  Davis embarrased Weber 18-5.  so if Viewmont lost to Weber-wow!  that’s not a good loss for the Vikings.   Davis should be the 2-seed.  they better because Timpanogas has there #.  Darts don’t want to have to meet timp in the 1st round.

Oh the north and its’ dreams. They always win the first round and get eaten up in the quarters. There hasn’t been a strong north team since Bountiful took it 3 years ago. Looks like this season is shaping up the same as last.

      • laxtastic

I’m not dreaming because I think the only team with a legit shot to win a quarters game is Bountiful.  I think the 1 and 2 seeds in the north can win a game and Bountiful could probably win in the quarters because of the easier road, but that will be it for the north this year.  Nobody is getting past that from the north in my opinion.

        • rivlaxer

Oh I see. Understood. I agree with you on that.

These brackets are setting up for a great post season!! Alta will breeze through their first two rounds. Whoever wins between Judge or Bingham will win the next round and get into the final four. Juan Diego has the easiest road to the final four. I think Lone Peak will play Brighton in the quarter finals and upset them to get into the final four.

    • hhlax

Lone Peak will lose first round. If they happen to sneak past Viewmont, Brighton will destroy them. Juan Diego does not have an easy path when they have to Park City and Pleasant Grove. Out of the projected No. 1 seeds, Brighton has the easiest.

      • laxtastic

I agree!  Lif7Boy I think Lone Peak has no chance against Brighton.  Have you watched the Bengals this year.  They are really good.  If Alta only beat bingham by 1 point then I wonder if Alta is all the hype.  I’ve seen Bingham a couple of times this year.  And I’m really surprised they gave Alta that good of a game.  Bingham only beat Bountfiul 9-7 and Davis 9-6.  Either they were way up for that game or I don’t know.  I was surprised by the score of the alta bingham game.
