The Wasatch Lacrosse Club is a competitive travel lacrosse team made up from players just completing their sophomore season. The team is made up of 19 players who were hand selected over a seven month period. The team includes two goalies, four attackmen, seven midfielders and six long poles. Players come from schools across the Wasatch Front but specifically Alta, Copper Hills, Davis, Olympus, Lehi, Brighton, Syracuse, Waterford, Viewmont and Judge.
“All the athletes that were chosen were thought to possess the potential to compete at the collegiate level,” said Coach Ricky Larkin. “These guys are dedicated to the sport of lacrosse, and want to use lacrosse as a means to get into college.”
At the helm of Wasatch LC is Ricky and Danny Larkin and Adam Eddinger. All three coaches met in college at DeSales University in 2006. The Larkin’s were National Champions at Westminster College in 2008, and have coached at Olympus High School as Varsity assistants for the last three years. Adam Eddinger has been the equipment manager for Team USA Indoor, assistant coach at Downingtown East High School (PA), and is currently an assistant coach under Brian Dougherty at NCAA D-II Chestnut Hill College in Pennsylvania.
2012 marks the beginning of existence for Wasatch LC. The team will compete in the CP Lax Showcase at Westminster College on June 15-16. Wasatch LC will be competing in one or two other tournaments throughout the year to keep players in tune with each other.
“Our main goal as a club is to compete in the Tri-State Lacrosse Festival in New Jersey next summer, which is one of the most prestigious team tournaments in the country,” said Ricky Larkin. “It was our goal to get there this summer, but due to circumstances, we will stay local this year. ”
To get ready for the CP Lax Showcase, Wasatch LC will be holding nine, two-hour practices, which will be broken down by time slots to make sure specific coaching topics will be covered. Coaches will stress team offense and team defense, which every player on Wasatch LC will be expected to learn and know, regardless of position. To get up to game speed, Wasatch LC will take part in three full length scrimmages with other local club teams of similar age level.
“Wasatch LC will be run like a college program and team organization will be the key to our success,” said Larkin.
Utah Starz has put together two different teams for multiple tournaments, and Wasatch LC will be playing both teams to get different looks. Also, Wasatch LC will be taking on Advantage, a team based up in Davis County, as they get ready to compete in the Vail Shootout. All of the scrimmages will take place at Holladay City Field (4650 S 2200 E).
