This past Sunday marked the first, of what we hope to be many, Bogeys for Bud’s golf tournament at Thanksgiving Point. The tournament was initiated to help a fellow ULA Men’s League player, Rich Qualey, who has some medical bills to pay after trying to catch a line drive with his eye during a softball game a couple weeks ago. Rich plays for the Clams and when the team found out what had happened they instantly started to figure out how to help. As Dan Schmidt says, “Lacrosse isn’t just a sport, it’s a community you live in.” In ten days this awesome event was thrown together and went off without a hitch.
The tournament featured forty players mostly from the Clams team, family and friends. Carts were arranged with player’s names and hole assignments for the shotgun tournament. With the sun beating down on us we made our way around the track. After some good shots, and some not so good shots, we all finished and gathered in the café for some burgers and hot dogs which were included in the entry fee. After everyone had filled up we surrounded the mechanical bull set up outside. There was some good bull riding skills displayed as well as a few good tumbles. It was a great way to end an impressive event.
We want to continue giving back to the local community so we have scheduled another fundraiser tournament. All proceeds raised from the event will be given to a local charity. The next tournament is scheduled for Sunday, August 5th 8am shotgun start with a barbeque to follow. It will cost $60/player which will include 18 holes at Thanksgiving Point with a cart and BBQ. Registration is easiest if you sign up as a foursome so get your group together and send the names to bogeysforbuds@gmail.com. Please pay in advance.
