The East Meets West Lacrosse Camp is returning to Utah for the twelfth consecutive year, running from August 6 to August 9 at Sunnyside Park in Salt Lake City.
“This camp was established in 2001 with one goal in mind: Raise the level of lacrosse in Utah,” said Camp Director and Founder Drew Searl. “We wanted to provide an inexpensive way for local lacrosse players to gain exposure to the best players and coaches in the game without having to travel to the East Coast where this type of exposure primarily exists.”
Searl, a Wilmington, Delaware native, found his way to Utah in his sophomore year of high school which ‘killed [his] chances to get recruited’ by an NCAA program. Not giving up, Searl walked on at Syracuse, worked hard, earning playing time in his freshman year. Searl went to four NCAA Final Fours including a NCAA National Championship his senior year.
The camp is divided into four divisions of players based on age and skill level, from beginner to advanced. Additionally, the players work among coaches specific to each position: goalie, attack, midfield and defense.
“We traditionally have a nice balance between divisions which work nicely within drills and scrimmages,” said Searl. “We have found the High School players who aspire to play at the next level really benefit from working directly with the MLL players & current college players.”
The 2012 edition will feature seven current and former MLL players as well as local standouts on the field and sidelines.
