The 2012 ULA Men’s League capped off a stellar season with the semifinals and championship game on Saturday. The Sugar Honey Iced Teas were the winners, grabbing a 8-7 win over the Giraffes.
“Mike Calvert was the leader,” said Commissioner Drew Bicker. “He kept the team together on the field and the sideline. He brought a group of individuals together to play like a team in the final game and it paid off.”
The first semifinal featured the Blumps taking on the Giraffes. The Giraffes dominated the game, taking a 7-1 lead at halftime. The Blumps woke up at the break, clamping down on defense and scored two goals on offense in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, goals by Josh Condas, Collin Madsen and Danny Larkin brought the game within one goal. As the final seconds were ticking off, the Blumps shot on goal but the ball hit the pipe and bounced away. The second semifinal saw the Sugar Honey Iced Teas defeat the Buckeyes by the score of 7-4.
Before the championship game, the Masters took the field to provide the crowd with even more great lacrosse action.
The Championship game was back and forth with the Sugar Honey Iced Teas stopping a Giraffe attack late in the game to claim the win.
“It was another successful season,” said Bicker. “A lot of recently graduated guys came out and the league was a lot more competitive as a whole. It’s all about growing the game and keeping guys involved. There has been a lot of changes discussed for next year and I’m excited to see the league grow and evolve.”
