The Alta Hawks will look to maintain their high level of play in 2014 on the back of Kevin Perkins who is replacing Mark Davis who went to Corner Canyon after Alta was split with CCHS officially this summer. Before a two-year break from lacrosse, Perkins spent several years as the Head Coach at Utah Valley University where he led the Wolverines to the 2010 MCLA National Championship game but fell to St. Thomas, 12-9.
Perkins is anxious to apply his success at UVU to the high school level.
“The experience gained while coaching college ball was invaluable for the ever evolving complexities of the game and players,” said Perkins. “Having coached in a slew of scenarios has prepared me to handle any game time situation and better train any player. I will be applying a quicker speed of the game along with a higher level of lacrosse IQ.”
Perkins is also anxious to get back into coaching after a break.
“The love of the game will always put me on the sidelines, but really it’s my passion to create an atmosphere for any young man to feel successful on and off the field,” said Perkins when asked why he was getting back into the game. “Getting a fresh start allows any coach to reevaluate self, the game, and the influence that will be left behind. I am looking forward to the next chapter in my coaching career.”
Perkins credits the Alta board for his hire.
“I chose Alta mainly because the board’s belief in my coaching philosophy, and their great support, which lets me focus on what I love to do most – coach! The only challenges I have had thus far is not being able to meet with my players due to the black out,” said Perkins.
The Hawks will look to get to the Semifinals for the fourth straight year in 2014.
