Herriman Mustangs
Syracuse Midfielder Connor Meyer

As the season nears an end, playoff games have been far from disappointing. The top ranked Herriman Mustangs took on the Syracuse Titans Wednesday, and the match-up proved to be one of the most exciting of the season. Herriman came in to the match the clear favorite, but from the opening face-off, the Titans showed that they were ready to play at the playoff level. Their dominance and sheer determination led them to a 12-8 victory over Herriman.

For Herriman and Syracuse to be matching up in a semifinal game is a huge accomplishment for each program. Herriman is in their third year as a team, while Syracuse is only in their second. Despite their youth as teams, both have become powerhouses, each ranking in the Top 5 in the state. Both teams are armed with some of the top players in the state, including MVP goalie Wyatt Katsos and MVP attackman Chantz Roberts playing for Herriman and MVP face-off specialist Connor Meyer for Syracuse. Between the two teams there were 9 All-State players on the field. Read More

The playoffs are down to the final four. With only one slight upset in D-II with Waterford defeating Mountain Crest, the remaining teams are not surprising. From this point on, however, is where it gets a bit tricky. Between the four teams, there have only been five losses to other D-II teams. Each game should be very close and, depending on how each team shows up, could go either way.

Waterford Raven vs. Skyline Eagles

Waterford SkylineThis is already an interesting match-up because the Ravens and the Eagles played each other just over two weeks ago. Skyline came out on top, but the game was as close as it gets as they won 8-7 in overtime.

Waterford had two players named to the All-State first team: Matt West at attack and Jacob Silva at defense. Having great players at both ends of the field is part of the reason why Waterford is able to control the tempo of most games they play. Read More

Herriman Attackman Dillon Meyer dives to save a ball

The Herriman Mustangs continued to show why they are the top team in D-II this season with a 14-2 victory over American Fork on Tuesday. The Mustangs improved to 10-1 with the lone loss coming to Brighton earlier in the season.

Herriman scored first when Braxton Thompson found the back of the net on a great pass from Chantz Roberts. The next goal for the Mustangs came from an unusual source. Goalie Wyatt Katsos made his way to the top of the score sheet with a goal of his own. On a clear, the Cavemen locked off the d-poles, allowing Katsos to walk the ball up the field. Once he got to midfield, he decided to push the ball, expecting to draw a slide. The slide never came and Katsos stepped into the box and ripped a low shot into the back of the net. On the ensuing face-off, midfielder Ben Richard won the face-off and took it to the cage, scoring for the Mustangs. Roberts would finish out the quarter with a goal to give Herriman a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. Read More

Bingham MinersSince their inception, the Herriman Mustangs have been steadily building their lacrosse program in D-II hoping to move up the D-I. The Mustangs took a big leap toward that goal with their first Varsity season win over the Bingham Miners. During the first quarter it looked like Bingham had nothing to worry about. Bingham Sophomore Attackmen Matt Anderson started the scoring and he was followed by Bingham Senior Attackmen Nick Jenson. The Miners defense played tough denying all Mustang attempts to score. At the end of the first quarter the score was 2-0 for Bingham and it looked like history would repeat itself once more, but Herriman had different plans. Read More
