Pleasant Grove’s Viking Stadium is one the best lacrosse venues in Utah with scores of fans, games under the lights, concessions, a lighted scoreboard, and an in-game announcer, and it’s never more raucous than on senior night when the Vikings take on their cross-town rivals the Timpanogos Timberwolves.  The Pleasant Grove seniors didn’t go home disappointed after a game that showcased the offensive prowess of the two Utah County contenders, winning 18-15. Davis v. TimpanogosUnder a sunny sky in near-perfect lacrosse weather, Davis and Timpanogos went head to head on Thursday afternoon in Orem. The matchup of Div-I contenders did not disappoint with a double-overtime game that included lots of offense and plenty of physical play. When it was all said and done, the Darts would emerge victorious, 14-13, on a Zachary Jarvis scoop-n-score as the ball was rolling free near the cage after a Davis clear. The win came as a much-needed boost to the Darts, who were coming off a poor performance in their previous game and had dropped a one-goal decision to Lone Peak the week before. Read More

Alta HawksThis weekend, Alta, Pleasant Grove and Timpanogos will head to Boise for the Boise Invitational. Teams from 5 other states will also be there: California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. This is the opening year for the event and only the top teams from the 2012 season were invited, so the competition will be fierce. This will be a great opportunity for these Utah teams to see how they compare the the best teams in some of the nearby states.

For the third year in a row, Brighton heads out to Colorado to take on tough competition. They will meet up with Arapahoe, Cherry Creek Varsity 2 in a scrimmage and Regis Jesuit. These will be the first three games of the season for Brighton. Read More

Last year the South Conference was swept by newcomer Timpanogos. Pleasant Grove finished second with Lone Peak and Riverton finishing third and fourth. American Fork, who has been moved to D-II went win less in the conference. This year, Spanish Fork has joined the D-I South Conference and will look to be a factor from the beginning.

The Knights lost 10 seniors last year but return Midfielder Jake Stout and Attackmen Aaron Fjeldsted who combined for 56 goals last season.

The 2012 playoffs are here with some great first round match-ups. Here is a preview of each game.

No. 1 Bountiful Braves (10-6, 4-0) v. No. 4 Riverton Silverwolves (6-8, 1-3)

The Braves come into the playoffs boasting a perfect conference record and only losing 4 games in Utah. Riverton sneaked into the playoffs by beating American Fork in double overtime.

Bountiful Head Coach Marty Wescott: “We’re excited to be in the playoffs. We won’t overlook Riverton. We were the No. 1 seed a couple of years ago and they knocked us out in the first round so we will be ready to play.” Read More

There were some upsets last week that have shaken up the brackets. Most notable, Judge beat Brighton and Timpanogos beat Pleasant Grove. Riverton beat American Fork in double overtime to clinch a playoff berth. Also, Copper Hills beat Jordan to clinch a spot in the post season. Timpanogos Attackmen Jonathan Wagstaff Looking For Space Against Pleasant Grove Defender Trey Sparks

The Timpanogos Timberwolves beat rival Pleasant Grove by the score of 15-10 on Friday at Timpanogos High School in Orem. With the win, Timpanogos clinched the No. 1 seed in the D-I South Conference.

“We know Pleasant Grove well,” said Timpanogos Head Coach Bill Peperone. “These boys grow up playing together so we knew we had to contain their top guys.”

Pleasant Grove jumped out to a two goal lead midway through the first quarter on goals by attackmen Michael Perry and Spencer Merrifield. Timpanogos answered with a four goal run that was answered by Pleasant Grove to bring the score to 4-3 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams played well, getting good offensive opportunities before the defenses were able to force turnovers. Read More
